Trends That are No Longer Trending - Episode #74

Today we share with you some of the past trends that are no longer trendy. From songs to décor things come in and they go out.

We received a message from a bride and we thought it would be perfect for an episode!

Listener message:

Hello from Virginia. I'd like to say THANK YOU!! Your podcast has been extremely helpful, informative, and fun to listen to. I am currently planning a wedding for myself and my fiance - Tom and this podcast has been a wealth of knowledge for us. As you've noted - trends are continuously changing…it is so hard to keep up! And yes, ultimately, Tom and I will do what makes us happy, but I was wondering….what trends used to be HOT that are now NOT (example: cake vs. cupcakes, bouquet throwing vs. not, puffy sleeved dress, etc) to name a few. If you're able/willing - could you address this on your podcast? Wishing you well. Emily and Tom

We used our powers, asked our wedding biz friends and got lots of answers. Here is a list of fading trends that we are seeing.

*We must preface this by saying: Trends are weird. Just because they are trending in one area doesn't mean that it's even hit another area yet. Sometimes certain things really speak to a certain area and will stay much longer than the rest of the US. Typically larger cities establish and then move on from trends much faster than rural areas. So take this list with a grain of salt and know that these are just some things we are noticing.

  • Chocolate Fountains, fountains of any kind really
  • Burlap, mason jars, and baby's breath - rustic
  • Shabby Chic
  • Strapless Dresses
  • Trash the Dress shoots
  • Cake pops
  • Corsages
  • Matching Bridesmaids dresses
  • Thumbprint guestbooks
  • Garter and bouquet tosses
  • Chevron
  • Tiaras
  • Fondant covered huge cakes
  • Escorted bridesmaids
  • Being assigned a side
  • Playing “All the Single Ladies” for the bouquet toss
  • Choreographed wedding dances
  • Bubbles
  • Favors (mentioned once)
