Now the wedding and honeymoon is over, what else do you need to do? Well, there is a lot actually. We thought we would take the time and make a list for you, to make it easier to transition into your new life.
Things that need to be done after the wedding:
Clean up?
Return rentals – Tuxes, décor items, other clothing,
Preserve/clean gown and bouquet.
Thank you notes
Unpack and use gifts! (Throw a party cherry and apple)
Changing name:
- Social Security – you will need certified copy of Marriage Cert with Raised seal (with new name listed)
- Marriage Certificate
- DL – Check state requirements, old pic, social, marriage cert
- Bank items – all accounts, checks, credit card, atm cards, bring social security card, driver's license, Mar cert. Joint checking?
- Health Insurance
- Car Insurance
- Life Insurance
- Subscriptions
- Post office
- Memberships, gym…
Taxes? You are considered married for the whole year whether the wedding took place on Jan1 or Dec31, are you going to file jointly or separate?
Power of Attorney
Update Beneficiaries on bank acct, retirement, insurance (health, life, car).
Sell wedding décor if you are not keeping it.
Sometimes there is a post wedding blues period. It’s an adjustment period. It’s normal. It is a low after all of the party planning, excitement, and anticipation. Take this time to enjoy your new marriage and each other. It will be a great, a love filled time, during this honeymoon stage.
