Taking your Modern Wedding to the Next Level – Episode #81

In this episode, we give you lots of ideas on how do create a modern wedding. From super modern to whimsical modern.

Modern weddings don't have to be stark, plain and industrial. No, they can be warm, inviting and beautiful. We have so many ideas to share, you might want to take some notes.

-Minimalistic modern style. You could think of it sorta like the Ikea style. Clean lines, minimal décor, and simple. Very pared down.

• Use the space or venue as a basis for floral, décor and lighting.
• Warehouse space with tall ceilings and beams or rafters, bring the ceiling down to a more intimate level with hanging décor and lighting
• Loft spaces with exposed brick- use it as a backdrop for the ceremony, minimal décor or floral will be needed, use greenery.
• Sometimes called mid-century modern
• Clean, smooth, square tiered cakes
• Sleek, low centerpieces
• The use of colored walls as décor
• More candles than flowers
• Architectural design to flowers, Callas, tropical, orchids
• Geometric designs
• Warm glow to cut the cool feel
• Two colors, sometimes only gold and silver
• Black and white, maybe a little gray
• Concrete: tables, pillars, stands

-Less minimalistic modern style, think kicked up Ikea.

• Using lots of textures and designs such as lots of lines
• Big bold colors, two or three of them
• The use of curves
• The use of layers, geometric on top of square on top of round
• Stripes
• Square Arbor, clean lines, no draping, corner floral piece

-You can even get edgy with it and mix in an element of wild either through floral or fashion. Do a little more with that cake, keeping it smooth and soft but with a bit of flair.

-Do modern but whimsical with a theme,

• Both tech people, think lighted cubes and colored lights
• Architects- blueprint runners or overlays for tables, design tools for décor along with modern clean floral design for tables.
